A classic way to discourage bike-thieves, is to pimp till you can pimp no more. This concept is more widespread in other bike cities (oh, Amsterdam), as we generally pick our bikes like car owners pick their cars. The bike is our extension, and while we enjoy the pimping on other peoples bikes, we usually end up in the neutral.
This is a choice we stand by, right up until the bike is stolen. At which time you wish your bike would stand out, and glow in the dark.
